Glenn Beck - “Common Sense” – An Important Book

Just finished up Glenn Beck’s new book Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine

I consider this a must read for anyone interested in the direction of our country. It is short and to the point. And it includes a copy of Thomas Paine’s original “Common Sense” from 1776.

It certainly highlights several things that are not taught anymore as to what the United States is about. There are some great references and quotes by the founding fathers as to their intentions with regard to the constitution.

John Tantillo is, I think, the only one that gets it right in his article on FOX News.com - “Palin 1, Pundits 0”. The political commentators wouldn’t recognize morality or convictions if it hit them in the face. She is resigning for the right reasons instead of the political reasons. We need a few more public figures like this.

Tags: Palin,Politics

Do you truly believe God is all powerful?

I had a brief conversation today with someone I work with whose husband and mother are ministers. It got me thinking about a couple of things.

I believe that the Bible is the TRUE word of God. Yes there are several translations, but in general, from the ones I have read from, they are mostly in agreement and the differences are not significant (remember I said in general). Se here are a couple of questions:

If you don’t believe in the literal reading of the Bible, can you truly believe in God? Are you saying you don’t believe it is God’s word? Are you just trying to justify your own spin on things? If you don’t believe God made the world in seven days as the Bible states, why? Is it because you don’t think it is possible? Or is it because you believe the evolutionist theories? Remember, these are theories only and NOT fact. And I would argue, that there is plenty of evidence to refute the theories. I am not a great scholar who knows all of the references to quote for this argument, but I have read enough and discussed it enough to believe that evolution cannot explain the existence of humans.

A great point that I hadn’t thought of that my co-worker made was that people who don’t believe that God could have created the universe in seven days are limiting God’s power. But, the Bible says that God is omnipotent. If God is all powerful, you cannot or even more importantly you should not put a limit on what God is capable of.

A tangent of these thoughts is that God transcends time. God is with me now and God is with me and knows me in death. Notice I used the terms “is with me”. To me this is very important. God is not and cannot be constrained to time as we know it. Once again, back to the omnipotent issue. Therefore, in what we call time, God knew me thousands of years ago, and knows me in death. There is nothing he doesn’t know about me. With the thought of God transcending time, how could be be so arrogant as to say what is and is not possible for God. Thus, creating the universe and the sun and moon and earth and man and animals in 7 days is really nothing for God. In reality, God may have been doing it all at a nice leisurely pace. He could have just said, “It’s done!” and everything would suddenly be in existence the way he wanted it. Instead, he wanted to do it in 7 days (at least what we know as 7 days).

And who are we to question God?

More Links and Note to McCain

Haven't had much time to do anything other than read a few articles and my email. Here are a couple more links that I thought were good reading in regards to the financial crap that is going on.

Can't beleive it, but there was actually something worthwhile on CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/29/miron.bailout/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

This one is very good and has a LOT of info: http://www.reason.com/news/show/129158.html

Now onto McCain. I get the email blasts from the McCain campaign and on Tuesday (9/30), I got one with the subject of "It's time for action" about the "Bail Out" and why it is so "Necessary". I tend to dissagree and so even though I seriously doubt that it will be read, I hit the reply button and typed the following and sent it off.

I support you because you had the forsight to choose a conservative running mate. Now have have the courage to let the free market work like it is supposed to. DO NOT SUPPORT a bail out of ANY nature!!!!

FreddieMac and FannieMae MUST go away. They are a FAILED social experiment and anything that is done to prop them up will be worse in the long run. I little bit of pain now is MUCH better that socialism for the long term.

An additional note. Please let Sarah Palin be herself. She is not what we want when a bunch of washington insiders and consultants fill her up with drival!!! We want someone to FIGHT for our side. NOT to capitulate to the left.

Best Regards,
McCains VP Pick is EXCELLENT!!!

A lot of the taking heads have been touting the move by McCain to select Sarah Palin as his running mate as a move to get women voters. The one thing they are either missing or glossing over is that she was the BEST choice for McCain to rally the conservative base. Palin is a true down to earth conservative who is from outside the beltway and actually bets me excited about the election now.

Before the pick, I was planning on voting for McCain, primarily against Obama and not necessarily for McCain. This pick has turned my vote from a negative vote to a possative. Now I am excited to vote for McCain/Palin! I think this choice will move the conservative base of the Republican Party to action. Whereas before there was a lot of complacency.

GO McCAIN/PALIN!!!

The state of the USA scares me

I am torn...Being a Christian, I am not supposed to worry as God will take care of me and my loved ones (as well as all believers), but living in todays happenings really makes me wonder.

I truly believe our country is completely messed up. It is nothing like what was intended by the founding fathers (yep...fathers...pretty sexist huh??) Congress was never meant to be a career, but what do we have, career politicians that have completely lost sight of reality. The Court was never meant to make up laws and use foreign laws as references, but they sure due now. The President...Hmmm...What can I say about that? Not sure.

I struggle with mandated term limits because really, voting should be the term limits in my mind. But these congressmen get so entrenched in the system, that it is nearly impossible to get them out. And the money they raise and spend on campaigning is beyond ridiculous. On the other hand, the should never be a senator that is on his 5th, 6th or longer term. It just isn't right. It is career politicians who are not in the real world that mess everything up.

Look at the ethanol mess. They mandated turning our food into fuel. DUMB!!!!!!! Now look what is happening. Food costs are going through the roof because we the tax payers are subsidizing the farms to grow fuel rather than food. And it is not a very good fuel to boot. It takes more energy to make, it produces less energy than gasoline so you get less mileage and burn more. And it is water based so it can't be piped. It has to be transported by truck, thus burning more fuel...AND airplanes can't fly with ethanol because of its water based nature and the risks involved with engines vapor locking. AMAZING

And then there are the "Bush Haters". I actually feel sorry for these people. To hate someone so badly to wish him harm and to constantly lie about him is sad. These people are true hypocrites. The justify the lies that people they like make, but then say that "Bush Lied." I certainly don't agree with everything Bush has done, but I do believe he is a good man and has not blatently lied like these people are saying. Most of the supposed "lies" are the same things many other people said and believed. Did they lie too? I don't think so.

So now that I have rambled on in random directions, I should probably wrap this up and go to bed. The problem is that I have all these thoughts popping up randomly. It's like I can't keep focused on one issue because there are so many that they just bury you.

Hmmm....Back to the Christian in me that is not supposed to worry...Maybe I'll just go back to my programming and try and get my big work project done.

Until the next time I decide to type my random ramblings........

Why is congress concerning themselves with steroids in baseball. This has NOTHING to do with their constitutional duties and has nothing to do with the things that I think that most people consider important. Things like...Hmm...maybe national security, or taxes? They can't do anything useful so they have to look important and bring big names in to hearings to get attention.
