One of the issues I see as a major problem with our government is the tenure. Elected office was never meant to be a career. You were supposed to be elected, do your service, go home and get back to work. Too many politicians have made it their career and are getting rich off of it, or I should say getting rich off of us the tax payers.
If you are a career politition you just flat out cannot understand the real world. You begin to believe that the government is the answer to everything. These senators and representative who have been in the congress forever are absolutely out of touch. Look at Robert Byrd. He has been there for, I think, 50 years. Does he have a clue what life is like in the private sector? It's not possible.
I strugle with actual term limits, but I think that every elected official should at least self limit thier time in the public sector. Those that don't (pretty much ALL of them) seem to be more interested in gaining and retaining power and influence than doing any real good for the country.
The other issue I see is that any more, it is rediculous to have all of our senators and representative sit in Washington D.C. With the various forms of communications, it would be far better to have them in their respective districts were there is easier access to them by their constituents. Maybe they wouldn't loose touch quite so fast!
